Navigating South Africa’s big issues
The recent deaths of 11 women in Gauteng have thrust gender-based violence (GBV) back into the spotlight. In this edition, our focus is firmly on social accountability in addressing the GBV crisis.
Olona Majikijela’s hard-hitting piece, “When outrage is not enough”, argues that the GBV epidemic is no longer simply a social ill, but a fun-damental test of leadership. Together with Bashee Naidoo’s insights into bringing GBV conversations into the boardroom, we aim to shift the focus from performative concern to genuine corporate accountability.
This issue also balances these pressing social concerns with forward-looking economic discussions, including Dr AD Essome’s analysis of Africa’s AI sovereignty choices and the National Lotteries Commission’s focus on governance.
By bringing together these themes of accountability, technological sovereignty and the urgent moral imperative to address GBV, this edition of Leadership explores some of the most pressing challenges facing South Africa.
