Delivering the commitment to delighting South Africans with breakfast cereals

Kellanova is committed to being a responsible social contributor to public health goals by continuing to invest in product innovation, in the nutrition profile of its cereal range and increasing choices available to consumers.

”At Kellanova, we believe that to deliver commitment, we must listen to our consumers, understand their needs and preferences and offer them nutritious, tasty, and convenient products. This involves constantly innovating and improving our products, using the best ingredients and the latest technologies,” says Philip Nieman, General Manager & Executive Director at Kellanova in South Africa.

Kellanova is on a continuous journey of innovation with a diverse range of cereal products focusing on sugar reduction in its entire kid’s cereal range which has now reached 25% less sugar, is fortified with iron, and is high in 7 B vitamins.

This nutrient enriched recipe provides energy and combats fatigue. The range promises an excellent taste and aims to help consumers create balanced daily eating habits that support their overall wellbeing.

Kellanova offers a broad range of nutritious and great tasting products with numerous benefits. For example, the digestive wellness offered by the Kellogg’s All-Bran range demonstrates the company’s commitment towards delivering nutri-packed food.

The All-Bran range offers consumers the multiple benefits of fibres: feeling fuller for longer, keeping regular, and supporting digestive wellness. Together with added Iron and Zinc, it makes All-Bran the right way to start your day.

Recently, the company also launched Kellogg’s Granola Better-For-You range which includes:

  • Kellogg’s Cocoa Delight Granola enriched with protein and;
  • Kellogg’s Granola Cinnamon Crunch with 50% less sugar recipe.

”As a legacy brand, the Kellanova name is etched in the hearts and minds of South Africans; its cereal products nourish and delight and stay true to the culture, tradition, and dietary needs of people living in South Africa,” says Philip.

Breakfast cereals are essential to South Africans’ diet, contributing carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fibre when consumed with milk. The consumption of breakfast cereals is well recognised as an essential part of a balanced diet.

In addition, when consumed with milk it contributes positively to protein and calcium intake, and key ingredients needed for a more balanced diet.

Creating Better Days in Schools and Communities

Kellanova is contributing to advancing sustainable and equitable access to food in schools.

Since 2014, the company has donated over 58 million meals to 35 000 children in schools located in Gauteng, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu Natal who receive cereals from Kellanova every school day.

As for hunger alleviation efforts, Kellanova, in partnership with Reel Life, launched the Better Days Promise Gardens Project in three schools and homes in Kwa-Thema, Springs.

The project aims to build and transfer skills to schools and communities and to provide them with resources that will allow them to alleviate hunger with a more sustainable solution: replacing the reliance on food donation with the skills they need to grow their own food.

The vegetables from these gardens will be used for preparation of school lunches for the 2 600 children engaged in the project. Moreover, the gardens at home will allow families to have a continuous supply of vegetables throughout the year.
