We celebrate women and winning!
This month, we have two important things to celebrate. One is National Women’s Day on 9 August, and the other is a fantastic accolade that Leadership has won internationally.
Fresh after taking the PICA award at the end of 2008 in its category, Leadership has been praised with an honourable award in the Tabbie Awards held internationally by the Trade Association of Business Publications International (TABPI).
The association endeavours to bring together editors working for English-language publications worldwide, and encourage a common dedication to editorial ethics and excellence.
The 2009 Tabbie Awards featured just shy of 500 entries, with nominations coming from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, China, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Germany and India. Judges were once again impressed by the quality of the submissions.
The Tabbies recognise excellence in trade, association and business publications. Additionally, it exposes editors to similar business-to-business magazines and their local practices across the globe.
Leadership’s Mandela tribute edition of 2008 came sixth in the biggest award category – the “Single Best Issue”. This is no mean feat, as out of 500 entries, only the top 25 were given the awards. Furthermore, Leadership was the only South African magazine to achieve this recognition.
This year’s Tabbies have been promoted by partners in numerous countries, including the Magazine Publishers Association (MPA) of New Zealand; Australia’s Society of Editors NSW; the Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa (MPASA), and the US-based American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).
Well done to the entire Leadership team!
Our second celebration concerns National Women’s Day, and in honour of this occasion, Leadership has commemorated this August edition to the fairer (and brighter?) sex by putting together our Special Women’s Tribute issue.
