The Mitsubishi Outlander receives a fresh look for 2010, with changes to its appearance and more kit available.
The big story for the 2010 Outlander is the thoroughly ‘next-generation’ styling, inspired by the outstanding Mitsubishi Outlander GT Prototype displayed at the 2009 New York International Auto Show.
The front grille design is taken from the Lancer Evolution’s ‘jet fighter’ look, and is complemented by contemporary design elements such as a reshaped front bumper, side mirrors, fenders and bonnet. Reshaped head lamps, a new rear bumper and side sills complete the slick sports styling.
The robust exterior look is enhanced with the addition of chrome moulding for the side windows and a chrome strip along the tailgate.
The colour palette has been expanded with three new colours: Cosmic Blue Mica, Red Metallic, and Solid White.
The spacious cabin is now even more versatile with the addition of an extra glove box on top of the dash, with a cooling and warming functionality.
Other changes include a faux leather finish for the dashboard, front and rear door trims, an instrument cluster with back-lit dials, and an LCD display for easier use.
New for Mitsubishi on the Outlander is the adaptive front lighting system that considers the steering angle and vehicle speed when casting illumination. Adaptive lighting is standard on the Outlander.
Rear parking sensors, keyless start, cruise control, climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, full leather interior, integrated roof rails and a Rockford Fosgate premium audio system form part of the standard specification on offer.
This is complete with a six-disc MP3-compatible CD changer and a total of nine speakers, including a powerful subwoofer in the luggage compartment. This impressive system delivers exceptional audio entertainment with a remarkable output of 710W that is a standard fitment.
Outlander retains its 2.4-litre, double overhead camshaft 16-valve MIVEC GLS engine with 125kW of power and 226Nm of torque on tap.
For more adventurous exploits, the Outlander is equipped with an electronically controlled four-wheel drive system operated via a centrally located selector dial with two- and four-wheel lock modes for a range of driving conditions and terrain.
Should things go a little awry, the Outlander’s shining safety credentials should help to steady the nerves. Six air bags, active stability control and ABS brakes with EBD are standard.
The Mitsubishi Outlander costs R381 000 and comes with a three-year/100 000km warranty and three-year/60 000km service plan. Service intervals are at 15 000km.
With bold new styling and even more great features at no extra cost, the latest Outlander is more appealing than ever and is bound to attract an entirely new group of young, dynamic and active urbanites.
