Convention Adding a New Dimension
With the theme of sustainable leadership and an emphasis on mentorship, the 5th annual Tomorrow's Leaders Convention will add a new dimension to the proceedings at the Sandton International Convention Centre on 13 March 2012.
At this major event on the corporate calendar, the guests are the men and women selected by their companies as future chief executives. Each company selects up to four executives with the potential to take over the boardroom.
For the 2012 convention, companies are being asked for the first time to nominate as one of their four selected candidates a recent graduate or in-house trainee executive with leadership potential.
Said convention director Dylan James: "In these days of financial crises, climate change and other upheavals, we feel it is important to sustain the momentum generated by the Tomorrow's Leaders Convention. We aim to do this by creating an ongoing ethos of mentorship involving the candidates' companies and the Tomorrow's Leaders Fellowship whose 2600 members are all former tomorrow's leaders." To mark the start of their mentorship each of the young graduate executives will receive an inaugural Saki Macozoma Young Leader's Award – named for the chairman of Stanlib, an icon of business transformation and enthusiastic supporter of sustainable leadership.
At the Tomorrow's Leaders Convention, which is hosted by South Africa's award-winning Leadership magazine and for which there is no charge, the leaders of tomorrow are addressed by today's leaders from key sectors of the country's economy – finance, commerce and industry, and politics – on the problems and situations they are likely to face in the future.
The main addresses are followed by sector-specific sessions where the candidates share ideas and experiences; this bonding of peers is one of the most important features of the convention. The day ends with a gala evening, which is regarded as a Sandton occasion.
