With its striking good looks and revolutionary styling, Honda’s sleek Civic Sport is turning heads

Over the years, Honda has been known as one of the leading Japanese manufacturers, making vehicles ahead of their game in terms of quality, innovation and technology.

The all-new, 10th generation Honda Civic range is undoubtedly the most advanced and dynamic yet. The low-slung design with improved interior space and comfort coupled with the Honda 1.5 VTEC turbo direct injection engine along with features such as Walk Away Auto Lock, Remote Engine Start, Brake Hold and a 7-inch Touch Screen digital audio system elevates this car to a class of its own.

The Civic range is Honda’s top-selling vehicle, with 23 million units sold to date.

We tested the Honda Civic 1.5T Sport CVT, a dynamic model that commands attention wherever it goes. Striking good looks and styling reflect a revolutionary silhouette for a 4-door sedan, leaving the impression of a sleek sports car. The overall increase in wheelbase and length, as well as a lower height, translates into a lower centre of gravity. This improves road holding and improves the driving experience. New LED headlights and daytime running lights are also fitted to this model.

The bold new grille design along with the slim headlights as well as the new bracketed tail light design with LED light bars complete the car’s athletic feel.

The interior is finished in leather and the entire interior combines high-quality materials with the ergonomic centre console. This encompasses the Brake Hold function and the Electric Parking Brake switch. This, combined with the soft touch materials, ensures the driver and the passengers are comfortable at all times. The new full-colour LCD Multi-Information screen is mounted on the dashboard and allows for easy viewing and operation of the audio system as well as navigation and media systems. These can also be controlled from the multifunctional steering wheel. The slim A Pillar provides excellent visibility for the driver. Rear space has been increased by 55mm and the boot capacity has been improved by 20%. This allows for more luggage space, which is useful when travelling on holiday.

In terms of technology, the new Civic Sport is loaded with innovations, all of which make the driving experience easier, safer and more comfortable for the driver as well as the passengers.

Outstanding performance is the hallmark of the Civic Sport, offering 127Kw of power at 5500r/min and 220Nm of torque between 1700 and 5500 r/min. Even with this turbocharged performance, fuel economy is kept to a very acceptable 5.9l/100km. Eco-assist helps the driver to operate the vehicle economically by means of a changing colour indicator on the instrument cluster.

Safety is paramount in the Civic Sport, as in all of the models. Driving enjoyment as well as overall control and stability is helped with Agile Handling Assist (AHA), which is integrated with the EPS and vehicle control systems. The AHA system anticipates loss of control during cornering and continuously inputs small throttle and brake adjustment to assist driver control. Vehicle Stability control, which is also standard on all models, incorporates Hill Start assist, ABS as well as electronic brake force distribution (EBD).

All models are equipped with dual front, side and curtain airbags as well as a reverse camera and rear parking sensors.
