weFix chases 1,000,000 smart device repairs

Here’s how they’ll do it.

WeFix has set its sights on a million repairs - the brand has so far serviced over 900 000 units - as of August 2018 - and will be the first independent repair company to do so in South Africa.

New CEO, Willem Malherbe, has taken the helm of the country’s largest repair specialist and aims to repair the next 100 000 smart devices within the next year, believing that service and security are the two core elements to deliver on.

“Devices are literally everywhere. And within each device exists a customer’s private and personal data. And we take that seriously. It doesn't matter if it's an Apple laptop or a Samsung phone, a Galaxy tablet or iPad, it's what that device holds, that is near and dear to you, that is of great value. And for that reason we chose to place our focus on building a unit of the country's best technicians across devices. Trust is the component that will take us to that one million marker,” explains Malherbe.

Industry Context

Smartphones have taken the country and the continent, by storm, as their proliferation explodes across income brackets. And with that, the accessory and repair market has likewise boomed, given the need to repair is more frequent than the need to buy. According to the GSMA 2017 Mobile Economy Report, smartphone connections doubled in the sub-Saharan region over the past two years to nearly 200 million.

Irrespective of how much competition there may be, one thing that endures with technology is that customers require quality and trust, without fail, and repeatedly. Data breaches and downtime are something that customers have no time for. This plays directly into the hands of established credentials. The high street is flooded with cheap vendors offering the poorest quality of product and non-certified repair "technicians".

"A few hundred rands saving on a random, non-certified, and non-trusted side street vendor is not worth taking, because so often you end up having to repair again. And, more importantly, a violation of privacy is worse than being ripped off," Malherbe adds.

weFix manage claims for the majority of insurance companies in South Africa, including Discovery, Hollard, and Santam, and winning awards for Best Supplier based upon quality of delivery, as well as traversing global brands such as Apple, Samsung, LG and Huawei.

“My focus is that each and every store delivers on our proposition - we make things better. It’s simple, of course, but so few device owners realise that it’s actually a risk to opt for anything less than the best in this industry,” he concludes.
