UIGC Mining is a 100%-owned subsidiary of Univen Innovative Growth Company (UIGC), incorporated with a direct mandate to invest and operate sustainable mining and mineral beneficiation projects that will generate third-stream income to the shareholder

Through UIGC Mining, Univen will realise its objective which is to bridge the scarce skills gap within the previously disadvantaged masses in and around the SADC region.

Within the past 18 months, significant steps were taken to realise the above-mentioned objective through several investments and proposals to both existing and new mining operations, thus UIGC invested in a coal washing plant with a design capacity of 244 Mtpa.

Negotiations are at an advanced stage which will see UIGC invest in concrete aggregates production plant at one of the major platinum mines’ waste rock dump, this project will warrant job creation and skills development for the local community, while significantly reducing the negative environmental impacts as well as costs related to mine rock dumps management and pollution control for the hosting company.

Great strides are being taken for UIGC to make investments in coal and platinum mining within the home province of Limpopo, these will ensure the growth of UIGC into a global player in the mainstream mineral exploitation and beneficiation, thus providing a steady supply of essential minerals, as well as the mandate of making South Africa’s mineral beneficiation sector more competitive on the local and international stage, hence we are open for investment and partnerships throughout the mining value chain..

Lastly UIGC mining aims to bring about a legacy and add-value to the shareholder through income injection towards provision of bursaries, work-integrated learning as well as employment for Univen students and graduates throughout its operations. With the incorporation of UIGC Mining, the University of Venda took a decisive step to move away from standing on the sidelines to being an active player in the mining sector. It is therefore without a doubt that mining will never be the same, a new breed is born and is mining like no other.
