South Africans show their love during lockdown via the stars

With the nation in lockdown, South Africans are finding a new way to connect with and spoil those they love, by using celebrities.

Since this period started, myfanpark.com - the platform where fans can be gifted with  personalised video messages from their favourite celebrities – has been inundated with requests for messages of love, hope, inspiration and joy to be sent to kith and kin separated by the lockdown. The requesters have ranged from grandchildren missing their ‘Ouma’, and dads wishing they could be by their daughters’ sides, to friends who can't raise a glass (or two) together to toast over a special occasion and families who are unable to celebrate milestones together – all people longing to connect but who now, with the help of over 280 famous faces like those of Siya Kolisi, Riaan Cruywagen, Francois van Coke and Zola Nene, have been  able to reach out to loved ones in a special way, creating memorable moments while apart.

The messages have not only included birthday wishes, congratulations on special achievements and shout-outs to share how much people are missed, but also some marriage proposals and even a pregnancy announcement.

Comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout was given the honour of announcing to friends and family of the couple that they are expecting their first baby. They said: “We were looking for a fun and different way of breaking the big news to the family. One of our most memorable dates was seeing Schalk live, so we thought it would be rather fitting. He did a fantastic job and we look forward to sharing the video with friends and family soon.”

The funny man shared: “I have helped a guy propose to his girlfriend, but never anything like this! I hope I didn't scare the family even more!”

“Stories like these are why we wake up and do what we do every day – to generate smiles and special memories for millions of people around the world that will last a lifetime,” concludes myFanPark Co-Founder and CEO, Joy Des Fountain.
