Despite abortion being legally available in South Africa after a change in legislation in 1996, safe and high quality abortion services remain largely inaccessible due to various factors. There are a whole host of barriers – from cost to cultural norms and stigma to service provider attitudes – that prevent young women from accessing timely life-saving, life-enhancing abortion and post-abortion care.

ACTIVATE! Change Drivers will convene the #SRHFYI Imbizo in an effort to bring together various stakeholders to explore how to enhance community-based interventions to advance sexual and reproductive health rights in South Africa. Moreover, the Imbizo will endeavour to get commitment from partners and stakeholders to integrate the #SRHFYI Campaign into already existing programmes. The Imbizo will be coordinated as follows:

Date   :  27 June 2019

Venue: Pete Suzman Room

             WITS Sports Centre

              Braamfontein

Time  :    08:30-15:00

ACTIVATE! Change Drivers, in partnership with IPAS South Africa is committed to working with youth and various stakeholders across Gauteng and Limpopo, to enhance the ability of women to access comprehensive abortion care as well as family planning services. With this in mind, ACTIVATE! Change Drivers has initiated the Sexual and Reproductive Health ‘For Your Information’ Campaign (#SRHFYI) with the aim of sharing evidence-based SRH information in its simplest form in order to empower women to make informed decisions about their bodies and their lives.
