The nuclear renaissance. The term has been around for more than ten years. We're still waiting.
You see nuclear power is not clean. Radioactive isotopes may be invisible and odourless but they cause DNA mutations in all living matter. All nuclear plants release these routinely into water and air. Uranium mining is not clean. Tailings dumps and sludge dams poison water courses and affect surrounding communities.
Its not cheap. Splitting atoms to boil water to create steam and turn turbines is complex and costly. Factoring in decommissioning and long term waste costs sets taxpayers back plenty.
Its no solution to climate change. It takes approx ten years to get a plant built.
Oh yes... and then there is that little issue of the thousands of tons of high level waste generated in a plants lifetime. Where did you say you would put that?
Oh right - nobodys worked that problem out yet....and they keep on selling the product. Nice industry.
