LeadershipLeadership beats best in the world

An edition of our hard-copy sister publication, Leadership magazine, has been voted best in the world in a particular category of the annual TABBIE awards. The TABBIE awards are presented by the United States-based Trade Association Business Publications International (TABPI), an association of more than 100 publishing houses.

The magazine won the 2010 gold award in the Best Single Issue category in a contest that attracted more then 500 nominations from the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, New Zealand and South Africa.

The winning issue was Leadership's 300th edition – a notable achievement in itself – published in December 2009.

In making their decision, the judges commented: "A slick, well-laid-out magazine that features the leaders of South Africa from many different walks of life. It's an eye-candy magazine, but the articles offer blunt, honest opinions from that country's leaders on a variety of subjects."

In accepting the award, Leadership editor Robbie Stammers said: " We feel very privileged. The team works very hard, and to be recognised by our peers at this level is very satisfying."

Leadership is the flagship in the list of business magazines published in

Cape Town by Cape Media Corporation. Said managing director Robert Arendse: "It is good to see that South Africa can lead the way even in such a highly competitive industry as ours."

Cricket scandal

Too little too late? If Hollywood were considering a remake of Sex, Lies and Videotape, there is some disturbing new material that would offer a perfect opportunity to write a sequel, but then they would have to be prepared to do some filming in the Asian subcontinent and interview a few bookmakers on cricket tests.

Strike but one battle in ongoing war Truth is the first casualty of war. This old adage certainly rings true for South Africa at present as the country finds itself in the grip of a war of perceptions, speculation, claims and contradictions, as well as a vicious contest for power and spoils. A confusing and increasingly complex...
