Marketer, Chivas Regal brand ambassador


To represent and manage a brand as prestigious as Chivas Regal, one must not only mirror and complement its renowned sophistication, but demonstrate deep-rooted passion and drive – the same characteristics that catapulted the distinguished Scotch whiskies to their globally regarded elite status.

Abongile Kolisi, Chivas Regal’s new Brand Ambassador, possesses all these qualities and so much more.

Though born and raised in the mostly-rural Eastern Cape, don’t dare mistake Abongile for a simple, unambitious country girl. Since relocating to the fast-paced, bright and – some may say – intimidating city of Johannesburg -, the young career woman’s confidence and elegant style has ensured that she quickly found her feet.

“I love the diversity of this city,” she says. “It has its own unique energy created by the all the people from different cultures and backgrounds who come looking for success.”

Abongile explains that Jo’burg is filled with well-informed young professionals busy establishing themselves in their careers, or who are already established and “want to go for it”. In this way, she’s just like them - a serendipitous fact as Chivas Regal’s target market is young, successful and career-driven individuals. 

According to Abongile, the Chivas Regal man or woman is one who has found or is striving for career actualisation, appreciates history and culture, and is drawn to refined city life as a facilitator of greater success - economically and socially.  As this description perfectly suits the young brand ambassador, she is able to connect with and relate to the Chivas ethos of winning the right way, she asserts.

Currently studying for her B.Com in marketing management, she also spent three years at SA Breweries in Sales; two years at BrandSmith in activations for Glenfiddich, Remy Martin and Grant Whisky; and two years as Brand Ambassador for SKYY Vodka before landing at Chivas Regal.

“I’m honoured to be working for such a prestigious brand. This is going to be a fulfilling chapter in my life.”

Though nobody can predict Abongile’s future levels of fulfilment, a few things are clear: her career trajectory is on the up, and the lady knows her luxury spirits.

Been there: It’s been an interesting six years working in the liquor industry. I have met and made phenomenal contacts from different  walks of life.  

Done that: I go for what I want. My journey hasn’t made sense to most but it makes perfect sense to me. I do and go for what seems to be the unattainable - the impossible. I own it and have fun while doing it.

Watch out: I’m about to shake things up in the Whisky category - a force to be reckoned with. A confident young black female being the face of  a  spirit of superior quality, Chivas Regal - a new era has begun!
